Microsoft is revamping its Surface lineup with two new devices: a 12-inch Surface Pro and a 13-inch Surface Laptop. These devices feature Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus chips, promising enhanced performance and efficiency.
Surface Pro 12-inch
The new Surface Pro sports a smaller 12-inch display with rounded corners and uniform bezels. The keyboard has been redesigned to be flatter, and the Alcantara material is removed from the palm rest area. It will be available in violet, platinum, and ocean colors. The kickstand design remains similar to previous models. Noteworthy changes include the relocation of the camera to the corner for portrait mode and the magnetic attachment of the Surface Pen to the rear of the device. It has two USBC ports, but the Surface Connect port has been removed. The device includes 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and operates fanless. Pricing starts at $799, with the keyboard sold separately for $149.
Surface Laptop 13-inch
The 13-inch Surface Laptop, a successor to the Surface Laptop Go, also features a Qualcomm X Plus chip, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The design resembles the Surface Laptop 7. Instead of a Windows Hello camera, it uses a fingerprint reader on the power button. Connectivity options include two USBC ports, a USBA port, and a headphone jack, but no Surface Connect port. The battery life is estimated to be between 16 and 17 hours. Pricing starts at $899.
Common Features & Additional Points
Both devices are part of the Co-Pilot Plus PC initiative, enhancing AI experiences in Windows. They will be available for consumers on May 20th and for businesses in July. These new devices signal a shift towards smaller, safer designs for Microsoft's Surface line.
