Asus ROG Ally 2 Surfaces with Dual Variants

Regulatory filings have provided the first glimpse of the highly anticipated Asus ROG Ally 2: the existence of two distinct versions of the gaming handheld. Notably, one of these variants features a dedicated Xbox button, corroborating earlier reports of a collaboration between Microsoft and Asus on an Xbox-branded device codenamed "Project Kennan".

The leaked images, originating from Indonesian certification listings and linked to an FCC filing detailing the devices' Wi-Fi module, showcase a black version of the handheld sporting the prominent Xbox logo in the top-left corner, situated above the D-pad. This contrasts with the standard white ROG Ally 2, where this button appears to be blacked out in the provided imagery, suggesting a potential replacement or removal in the final retail unit.

Both models are expected to feature a 7-inch, 120Hz LCD display, consistent with the first-generation ROG Ally. The Xbox-branded variant is listed with an 8-core, 36W AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme CPU, while the standard white version reportedly incorporates a less powerful 4-core, 20W chip.

The ROG Ally 2 showcases more pronounced, molded controller grips on each side, a departure from the blockier, sloped design of its predecessor. This redesign suggests a focus on enhanced ergonomics, potentially offering a more comfortable grip for extended gaming sessions, albeit at the cost of a seemingly thicker overall profile.

The timing of these regulatory filings strongly indicates an imminent release. Asus has a history of unveiling new hardware at Computex, which is scheduled to commence on May 20th, immediately following Microsoft's Build conference starting on May 19th.
